In the Updates section, Smart Update Monitor displays all updates detected during the most recent update check for your Joomla website.
This provides you with a central overview of available updates for Joomla and your installed extensions.
Available updates
Smart Update Monitor retrieves and processes the update information provided by Joomla's update system.
Depending on the extensions installed on your website, updates may be displayed for:
- Joomla Core
- Components
- Plugins
- Modules
- Templates
- Language packs
This allows you to see in one central location which parts of your Joomla installation are no longer up to date.
Update information
For each detected update, Smart Update Monitor clearly displays the available information.
This includes information about the affected extension as well as the installed and available versions. This allows you to quickly identify which extensions have updates available.
The information available may vary depending on the data provided by the respective Update Site.
Checking for updates
The displayed updates reflect the results of the most recent update check.
If you want to make sure the list is up to date, you can start a new check at any time by clicking Check Now on the dashboard.
When automatic monitoring is enabled, the list is also updated when the configured Joomla Scheduled Task performs the next check.
Installing updates
Smart Update Monitor does not install updates.
The extension is designed to detect and monitor available updates and notify you about them. Updates themselves are still installed using Joomla's corresponding update functions.
This means you remain in control of when an update is installed and can, for example:
- create a current backup,
- check the compatibility of an extension,
- install an update on a test environment first,
- review the developer's changelog.
Ignoring updates
Not every available update needs to be installed immediately. If you do not want to consider a particular update for the time being, you can ignore it.
This can be useful, for example, if you intentionally want to remain on a specific version or want to check the compatibility of an update first.
Ignoring an update does not install, modify, or remove any files belonging to the affected extension. It only affects how the update is displayed and monitored within Smart Update Monitor.
An update is not displayed
If you know that a newer version of an extension is available but Smart Update Monitor does not display it, there may be several reasons.
In this case, check the following:
- whether the associated Update Site exists and is enabled,
- whether the Update Site is accessible,
- whether a valid Download ID is required for a commercial extension,
- whether the developer has already published the update through its Joomla Update Site,
- whether a new check has been performed since the update was released.
Then perform a manual check from the dashboard.
Update information depends on the provider
Smart Update Monitor can only detect updates that are made available to Joomla through the configured Update Sites.
If a developer does not provide an Update Site, provides an invalid update definition, or restricts access to updates, Smart Update Monitor may not be able to automatically detect an available update.
Smart Update Monitor therefore does not replace the information and security notices provided by the respective extension developer.
