The extension is designed as a monitoring and notification solution. You remain in control of when updates are installed.
No automatic installation of updates
Smart Update Monitor does not automatically install Joomla or extension updates.
The extension checks available update information, stores the results, and notifies you according to your configuration.
Updates themselves are still installed using Joomla's corresponding update functions.
This allows you to take appropriate steps before installing an update, such as:
- creating a complete backup of your website,
- reviewing the update's changelog,
- checking compatibility with your Joomla version,
- testing major updates in a test environment first.
Updates as part of website security
Regular updates are one of the most important measures for keeping a Joomla website secure.
Updates not only provide new features and bug fixes, but may also address known security vulnerabilities.
Smart Update Monitor helps ensure that you do not overlook available updates – especially for websites whose administrator area you do not access every day.
Update Sites and external sources
Smart Update Monitor uses Joomla's update system and the Update Sites configured within it.
The version information is therefore provided by Joomla or by the developers of the installed extensions.
Smart Update Monitor cannot verify whether updates provided by an external developer are secure or fully compatible with your website.
Only install updates from trusted sources and follow the respective developer's instructions for important updates.
Download ID
The Download ID entered in the settings is used to access protected updates for Smart Update Monitor.
Keep this ID confidential and do not publish it in screenshots, forums, or other publicly accessible areas.
Download IDs or access credentials for other Joomla extensions are not managed by Smart Update Monitor.
Email notifications
Update notifications may contain information about the extensions installed on your website and their available versions.
Therefore, only use email addresses belonging to people who are authorized to receive this information as notification recipients.
Regular backups
Smart Update Monitor is not a backup solution.
Create complete backups of your Joomla website regularly and, especially before major Joomla or extension updates, make sure that a current and working backup is available.
Keep Smart Update Monitor up to date
Smart Update Monitor itself should also be kept up to date.
With a valid Download ID, you can install available updates through Joomla's update system.
