Smart Update Monitor is installed as a Joomla package. The package contains all required components of the extension and can be installed directly using the Joomla Extension Manager.
System requirements
Before installation, make sure your website meets the following requirements:
- Joomla 5 or Joomla 6
- PHP 8.1 or higher
- Joomla's update functionality enabled
- Access to the Update Sites of installed extensions
For automatic update checks, Joomla Scheduled Tasks are used.
Installing Smart Update Monitor
Installation is performed using the standard Joomla Extension Manager:
- Download the Smart Update Monitor installation package.
- Log in to the administrator area of your Joomla website.
- Go to System → Install → Extensions.
- Drag the ZIP file into the upload area or select it using the file browser.
- Wait for Joomla to complete the installation.
Joomla automatically installs all components included in the Smart Update Monitor package.
After installation
After successful installation, you will find Smart Update Monitor in the Joomla administrator area.
Open the component to access the dashboard. There you will get an overview of the current update monitoring status and can perform your first update check.
Immediately after installation, there may not be any check results yet. These will be created as soon as the first manual or automatic update check has been performed.
Automatic update checks
Smart Update Monitor includes a task plugin for Joomla Scheduled Tasks. This allows update checks to be performed regularly and automatically in the background.
The plugin is installed together with the Smart Update Monitor package. The Scheduled Task itself must then be configured in Joomla.
The setup is explained in detail in the Scheduled Tasks section.
Smart Update Monitor updates
New versions of Smart Update Monitor are provided through the Joomla update system and can be updated through the administrator area just like other Joomla extensions.
If a Download ID is required to access updates, you can enter it in Smart Update Monitor. More information can be found in the Settings section.
Installation complete
After installation, you can start using Smart Update Monitor immediately. As a next step, open the extension, review the basic settings, and perform your first update check.
