After installation, Smart Update Monitor is ready to use. This section explains how to perform your first update check and configure the most important features.
1. Open Smart Update Monitor
Open Smart Update Monitor in the administrator area of your Joomla website.
You will be taken to the Dashboard, where you can quickly see the current status of your website and the most recent update check.
Immediately after installation, there may not be any results yet. Therefore, start by performing a manual check.
2. Perform your first update check
Click Check Now on the dashboard to start a new update check.
Smart Update Monitor uses Joomla's update system to retrieve and evaluate the available update information.
Depending on the number of installed extensions and the response time of the configured Update Sites, the check may take a moment.
Once the check is complete, the dashboard is updated and displays the current update status of your website.
3. View available updates
Open the Updates section to view all currently detected updates.
There you will find information about available updates and can see which installed extensions or Joomla components are not up to date.
Smart Update Monitor monitors the updates and presents the information in a clear overview. Updates themselves are still installed using Joomla's corresponding update functions.
4. Ignore updates you do not need
There may be situations where you intentionally do not want to install a particular update. You can ignore such updates in Smart Update Monitor.
Ignored updates are no longer considered relevant during future checks. This means you will no longer receive notifications for these updates.
If you want to monitor an ignored update again later, you can remove its ignored status at any time.
5. Check Update Sites
Open the Update Sites section to review the update sources used by your Joomla installation.
Update Sites provide Joomla with version information for installed extensions. If an Update Site is unavailable or incorrectly configured, available updates may not be detected.
Smart Update Monitor helps you identify such problems early.
6. Configure email notifications
Next, review the settings for email notifications.
Smart Update Monitor can automatically notify you when new updates are detected during a check. This means you do not have to regularly open the Joomla administrator area just to check the update status of your website.

7. Set up automatic checks
You can perform a manual check at any time. For regular monitoring, you should also configure a Scheduled Task in Joomla.
Smart Update Monitor provides its own task for this purpose. Joomla can then run it regularly and automatically check for new updates.
How to configure the task and which intervals are recommended is explained in the Scheduled Tasks section.
8. Check the logs
In the Logs section, you can review the checks and relevant actions performed by Smart Update Monitor.
The logs are particularly useful for verifying whether automatic checks have been performed or for investigating a problem with update monitoring.
Basic setup is complete
Once you have performed the first check, reviewed the notification settings, and configured a Scheduled Task, Smart Update Monitor can regularly monitor the update status of your Joomla website.
You can open the dashboard at any time or perform an additional manual check whenever you want to verify the current update status.
