Dashboard

The dashboard is the central overview page of Smart Update Monitor. Here you can see at a glance when your Joomla website was last checked and whether any updates are currently available.

You can also start a new update check directly from the dashboard.

Overview

The dashboard summarizes the most important information from the latest update check. This allows you to quickly see whether any action is required without having to open the individual sections of Smart Update Monitor.

The information displayed is based on the most recent successfully completed check.

Last Check

The dashboard shows when Smart Update Monitor last performed an update check.

This allows you to quickly verify whether automatic monitoring is running regularly and how current the displayed information is.

If the last check was performed an unusually long time ago, you should verify that the configured Scheduled Task is running correctly.

Available Updates

The dashboard shows whether any available updates were found during the latest check.

These may include:

  • Joomla Core updates
  • Component updates
  • Plugin updates
  • Module updates
  • Template updates
  • Updates for installed language packs

For a detailed overview, open the Updates section.

Ignored Updates

Updates that you intentionally exclude from further monitoring are treated as ignored by Smart Update Monitor.

Ignored updates are no longer considered relevant during future checks and will not trigger any further notifications.

If you want to monitor an ignored update again later, you can remove its ignored status at any time.

Update Sites

Smart Update Monitor also takes the Update Sites of your Joomla installation into account.

These are important because Joomla uses them to retrieve information about new versions of installed extensions. Problems with an Update Site may prevent available updates from being detected.

More information can be found in the Update Sites section.

Manual Check with “Check Now”

You can start a new update check at any time by clicking Check Now.

This is useful, for example:

  • after installing a new extension,
  • after making changes to Update Sites or Download IDs,
  • when you want to check the current update status before performing maintenance,
  • when you want to check for new updates without waiting for the next automatic check.

Once the check is complete, the stored information is updated and the dashboard displays the new status.

Automatic and Manual Checks

For Smart Update Monitor, it generally makes no difference whether a check is started manually from the dashboard or automatically through a Joomla Scheduled Task. The results are stored centrally and are then available in the various sections of the component.

For continuous monitoring, we recommend setting up automatic checks and using the manual check as an additional option when needed.

If No Updates Are Displayed

If no available updates are displayed, this initially means that Smart Update Monitor did not detect any relevant updates during the latest check.

However, keep in mind that update detection depends on the Update Sites and the information they provide. Commercial extensions may also require a valid Download ID or an active subscription.

If you suspect that an update is missing, check the Update Sites and then perform a new manual check.
