Settings

In the Smart Update Monitor settings, you can configure email notifications, reminders for updates that remain available, your Download ID, and the logging of update checks.

You can find the settings in Joomla's Global Configuration under System → Global Configuration → Smart Update Monitor or by clicking the Options button in the component.

Enable notifications

The Enable Notifications option determines whether Smart Update Monitor sends email notifications.

  • Yes: Email notifications are enabled.
  • No: No email notifications are sent by Smart Update Monitor.

This setting does not disable update checks themselves. Smart Update Monitor can continue to check for updates and display the results in the administrator area.

Recipients

In the Recipients field, you can specify which email addresses should receive notifications.

You can enter one or more email addresses. If you want to notify multiple recipients, enter each email address on a separate line.

Example:

This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

For notifications to be delivered successfully, email sending must be correctly configured on your Joomla website.

Reminder after days

The Reminder After Days setting determines after how many days Smart Update Monitor should remind you about an update that is still available.

The default value is 7 days.

This prevents you from receiving another notification about the same update with every automatic check. If a previously reported update is still available after the specified period, Smart Update Monitor can remind you again.

For example, a value of 7 means that an update that is still available can be reported again after seven days.

This feature is particularly useful if you cannot install an update immediately and want to make sure it is not forgotten.

Download ID

In the Download ID field, you can enter the Download ID associated with your active Smart Update Monitor subscription.

The Download ID allows Joomla to access protected updates for Smart Update Monitor.

Without a valid Download ID, Joomla may be able to detect that a new version of Smart Update Monitor is available but may not be able to automatically download the installation package.

The Download ID applies exclusively to updates for Smart Update Monitor itself. It does not replace or manage Download IDs for other installed Joomla extensions.

Log every check

The Log Every Check option determines how extensively Smart Update Monitor records its checks in the logs.

By default, this option is disabled.

  • No: Only relevant events such as new, resolved, or failed events are logged.
  • Yes: Successful checks without any new events are also logged.

For normal operation, the default setting is usually sufficient. This keeps the logs clear and focused mainly on events that are relevant to update monitoring.

If you want to verify that a Scheduled Task is being executed regularly or if you are troubleshooting a problem, it can be helpful to temporarily enable Log Every Check.

Recommended basic settings

For most Joomla websites, the following configuration is a good starting point:

  • Enable Notifications: Yes
  • Recipients: your administrator or maintenance email address
  • Reminder After Days: 7
  • Download ID: the Download ID associated with your active subscription
  • Log Every Check: No

Combined with a Scheduled Task that runs once a day, this provides automatic update monitoring without generating unnecessary notifications or log entries with every check.

Save settings

After making your changes, click Save or Save & Close.

The new settings will be applied to subsequent checks performed by Smart Update Monitor.
